Homeopathy at the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (WCTCIM 2025), October

The 3rd World Congress on TCIM, held in Rio de Janeiro offered an inspiring and strategically important platform for global exchange aligned with the new WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034.

Strategic Importance of Homeopathy at WCTCIM

The inclusion of Homeopathy at the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (WCTCIM 2025) in Rio de Janeiro is strategically important. This event is co-hosted by the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN), the European Society for Integrative Medicine (ESIM), and the International Society for TCIM Research (ISCMR).

Homeopathy was the third most represented traditional medicine system at the Congress, with 26 submissions, followed by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. This marks a significant increase in visibility compared to the previous WCTCIM held in Rome two years ago.

The Congress agenda closely reflected the four pillars of the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy:

  1. Strengthening evidence through fundamental and clinical research
  2. Regulatory and institutional integration of safe and effective TCIH practices
  3. Optimising cross-sectoral value
  4. Supporting community wellbeing, sustainability, and planetary health

ECH’s contribution clearly aligned with these priorities.

Advocacy, Paediatrics, and Global Collaboration

Dr Dora Pachova attended the congress on behalf of ECH and EUROCAM at this significant international event. She highlighted that ‘Being part of WCTCIM was a valuable experience, providing opportunities to exchange knowledge, enhance collaboration with TCIH colleagues, and develop meaningful organisational connections’. She also represented ECH at the Integrative Paediatrics pre-congress workshop, participated in the International Network on Integrative Paediatrics (INIP), and is looking forward to bringing many European integrative paediatricians into INIP. This marked an important step towards strengthening European participation in integrative paediatric care.

Dr Dora Pachova noted that it is critical to share with our TCIH colleagues the potential of our respective therapies and how collaboration can bring dividends. This event provides exceptional opportunities to build meaningful organisational connections.

Advocacy for TCIH in Action

Cristal Skaling-Klopstock, representing EUROCAM and the TCIH Coalition, moderated the workshop “Advocacy for TCIH in Action: Regional Challenges, Joint Solutions”, aimed at shaping the Global Advocacy Roadmap (GAR). Notably, homeopaths represented around 20% of the workshop participants, reflecting strong engagement within the wider TCIH movement.

ECH Poster ‘Integrating Ecology and Medicine – The Role of Homeopathy in Sustainable Health Systems.’

In line with the last pillar of the WHO strategy (Planetary Health and Sustainability), ECH’s poster at this congress is titled: ‘Integrating ecology and Medicine – The role of Homeopathy on Sustainable Health Systems’, focusing on the role of Homeopathy in relation to humans, animals, plants, and the ecosystem.

Dr Dora Pachova and Cristal Skaling-Klopstock presented the well-received ECH poster. This poster generates interest and encourages discussion among congress attendees. It emphasises the role of homeopathy in human health, veterinary medicine, agriculture, and environmental sustainability, highlighting its contribution to planetary health and resilient healthcare systems.

The poster is a collective work, developed in collaboration with Dr Jean-Pierre Jansen, Dr Dora Pachova, Dr Natalia Tzima, Dr Edward De Beukelaer, Cristal Skaling-Klopstock, and Leonardo Faedo.

It is available for download from the ECH website:  https://www.homeopathyeurope.org/wctcim_rio_2025

Broad Scientific and Clinical Program

The homeopathy programme at WCTCIM 2025 covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Mechanisms of action and clinical research
  • Integration into public health systems (Switzerland, South Africa, Brazil)
  • One Health, agriculture, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and environmental applications
  • Clinical management of complex and severe conditions
  • Telemedicine, addiction care, and public health initiatives
  • Synergies with Anthroposophic Medicine, including the Mistletoe Symposium

Looking Ahead

ECH’s strong presence at WCTCIM 2025 demonstrates the growing recognition of homeopathy within the global TCIH framework. The Congress reinforced the importance of collaboration, research, advocacy, and sustainability — and provided fresh momentum for future work aligned with the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034.

Homeopathy continues to show its relevance across healthcare systems, communities, and the wider ecosystem, contributing to a more integrated, sustainable, and people-centred approach to health.

It is critical to share and communicate with our TCIH colleagues the potential of our respective therapies and how collaboration can bring dividends.

This event provides exceptional opportunities to build beneficial organisational connections.
