Homeopathic Practice

Complementary medicine is included in the Federal Constitution of the Swiss Confederation Art. 118a 52 since 2009: “The Confederation and the Cantons shall within the scope of their powers ensure that consideration is given to complementary medicine”

Based on a contract between the Swiss National Medical Association FMH and the Swiss Homeopathic Medical Association SVHA/SSMH/SSMO, the FMH recognises the qualification ‘Homeopathy’ – ‘Fähigkeitsausweis Homöopathie‘ – for those medical doctors who have acquired the diploma ‘physician for homeopathy SVHA’.

Since 2015 there are national diplomas for „complementary therapist“ (Komplementärtherapeut) and “natural health practitioner” (Naturheilpraktiker). This profession is comparable to the “Naturopathe/Homéopathe(FR)/ Naturheilpraktiker/Homöopath (DE)” under Directive 2005/36/EC(5), ID 10050. The license to practice is granted by the cantons.

Homeopathic Medicines
EU legislation does not apply to Switzerland, because it is not a member of the EU nor part of the EEA. A new and pragmatic regulation for complementary and herbal medicinal products, including Asian medicinal products, is in force since October 2006. The Ordinance of the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products on the simplified authorisation of complementary and herbal medicinal products (Ordinance on complementary and herbal medicinal products, KPAV / OAMédcophy) can be found here.
